Native 5 (Maxamet)
I’m a long time user of the Manix 2 models and so I thought I’d try the Native 5 due to similar blade and handle geometry but in a smaller form. Overall I like the model quite a bit and will get a few more in various steels to try out. I can’t comment much on Maxamet as I’ve not owned it long enough to add anything of value. Initially it seems fine and it’s definitely on the higher side of the HRC scale (between 67-70), but that’s why I bought it, to experiment. I re-sharpened it and stropped on 5 micron Diamond paste on hardwood to increase the sharpness. Factory sharpness was just fine as is always the case with Spyderco, this is just my standard routine. I did notice an increase in number of required passes compared to S110V, for example; nothing extreme though. Reprofiling the bevel to lower degrees will really tell me more about the steel. It seems to retain its edge quite well thus far. Time will tell more.
